The Custom Music Database!

5/26/2018

Hey, level designers! You may have noticed this already under the "Extra's" tab from the website since, well, over a year ago, but I never announced it here. So here we go.

The Custom Music Database is a website full of already recorded, edited and looped custom music ready to be used in your level! In case you don't feel like downloading a song, editing it your own, and searching a host to upload it, this site is the perfect solution - all of that is already done for you!

There's a varied amount of custom music on the site - you can sort them all by category/theme (for example grassland, cave, volcano, etc). There's even music for events - music for certain sections of a level - for example, raising lava sections or a section where you have to be really careful.

Check out the site here!
Custom Music is currently compatible with Super Mario Flash 2, Super Mario Flash 3, Super Mario Flash 2: Jungle Edition, and soon Super Mario Flash 2: Retro Edition (yes, that's still happening!)
Remember, you can also check out the custom music tutorial for help adding music to your level!

Endless amount of candy!

The time has come! SMF1: Candy Edition has arrived, full of tasty new themes, tiles and music!

With a stunning 28 backgrounds to work with, Candy Edition is the first Ver.E SMF1 Edition, meaning you'll have a lot more themes, tilesets, enemies and music to work with, while keeping the simplicity SMF1 is known for!

In case you're unfamiliar with Ver. E, it's an extended version of SMF1 made by Hiro, and it adds a LOT of stuff to SMF1! Even without the ability to use custom backgrounds and custom music, there's a lot of things to work with in this version and its editions in the future.

In Candy Edition, you'll find... well, a lot of candy themed stuff, of course! You can create vanilla levels, donut bridges over syrup lakes, a level entirely made of flowers (there are plenty of flowers!), have the player go on a journey through a beehive, celebrate Christmas, mix up cheese with Oreo's... or bake a huge cake in the sky! And all of that can be done in 15 different themes to choose from, with most themes having several backgrounds too. The themes include:

  1. Candy Overworld
  2. Candy Mountains
  3. Honey Forest
  4. Candy Castle
  5. Christmas
  6. Candy Galaxy
  7. Cheese Hills
  8. Syrup Underground
  9. Sugar Hills
  10. Cloudy Sky
  11. Candy Cartoon
  12. Sugar Fields
  13. Choco Skies
  14. Syrup Sea
  15. Candy Factory
So, what are you waiting for? Check out and get level making in this new edition right here!

If you find any problems, like tiling cut-offs, feel free to let me know on my Level Palace profile or in the SMF1: Candy Edition comment section (you can find it at the bottom of the page). I'll try to fix them in a future update! For now, have fun in this delicious new edition!

Coming soon: SMF1 Candy Edition!

Do you love candy? And Mario? Then I have some sweets news for you! Super Mario Flash 1 is getting a new edition, called Candy Edition! This edition will, of course, be themed around vegetables. Yeah, well, that may or may not be true...

Actually, it will be themed around the world of sugar, syrup and chocolate! That's not the only good good news however. SMF1 has gotten a major update not long ago, now called SMF1 Ver.E, that added a LOT of new tilesets, backgrounds, music tracks and a new enemy to the game! SMF1: Candy Edition will actually run on the Ver.E engine, so there's more content available right from the start.

This edition started development some week ago, and you can find some early screenshots on the official page for the edition. Once the game is finished, you will be able to play the game there as well! The game is expected to be finished somewhere in the upcoming February. Check the SMF1: Candy Edition (Official Page) page often if you're interested, as development updates and new screenshots will soon be posted there regularly.

New guide: how to tile big bushes!

12/23/2016

Recently, an update was released for both SMF2 and SMF3 that included a new major scenery element: big bushes! However, if you look at the tileset for the first time, it can be very confusing. So that means - time for a guide!

This guide goes for both SMF2 & 3, since the bush tiles are the same, just a different color green. Big bushes can be used for plenty of levels - like grasslands, overgrown castles, grassy caves, etc - so it's very convienent to know how to tile these!

Enough reading, check out the tutorial here! (Well, you'll still need to read the tutorial of course!)
Have fun using these in your levels, and let me know if you have any more questions here in the comments or on my Level Palace profile (recommend).

Another small update... on NSMF2!

8/10/2016

Yes, been a long time since New Super Mario Flash 2 was updated! This isn't a major update however, since I am focusing on SMF2: Retro Edition now. it just fixes some tiling issues and... a nice loading time improvement. Going from 12MB to 9MB, the game should now load 25% faster!

Full changelog:

  • A way better looking logo, also resembling the NSMB reference a lot better.
  • A "Find and Share" level link at the top of the main menu - this brings you to the level page in LP, where you can browse other people levels and upload yours for other people to rate! (More info here...)
  • In the game info menu, you can find a link that leads you to my game page.
  • Fixed the slopes of the bonus zone tileset - they used too look mega cut-off.
  • Reduced loading times by shortening some music tracks that played twice before looped.
  • Boom Boom & Bowser's battle theme now have different looping points - Boom Boom's version loops quickly, but Bowser's has the more menacing parts of the music!

That's it for now! Check out the new updated game here! Feel free to let me know what you think of the update. You can do that easily on the forums!

Version 1.3 is here, fixing a few issues that older versions had.
Full changelog:

  • Added missing Float Platform sprites that were included in 1.0 & 1.1 but not in 1.2
  • Fixed issues with the beach/sand tileset (tileset screenies in old & new)
  • Fixed an cut-off with the bottom vine
  • Fixed enemies dropping yellow coins instead of rusty coins
  • Fixed level editor blocks including coin showing yellow coins instead of rusty coins

Super Mario Flash 1: Haunted Edition is HERE!

It's here! SMF1: Haunted Edition brings spookyness to the world of Super Mario Flash 1, with plenty of spoopy themes! Some of them include a night theme, haunted forests and factories, and of course, ghost houses. And more as well!

There's also some fun and interesting tilesets to work with, such as libraries. The library blocks act as scenery... except the books! This way you can make staircases using books. There is plenty of tile & scenery variety to work with here, despite it being a SMF1 game! And, of course, there is also 8 new music tracks themed after the game.

What are you waiting for? Get level making! Links can be found below!

Oh, and a nice variety of spooky music of course!

The game will be on this page when it's finished, for now you can find some screenshots from the game on here! There will also be a comment section when the game is released.

Super Mario Flash 2: Retro Edition, my upcoming Ver. C SMF2 game, is making some nice progress! And instead of just showing screenshots of the progress, I thought it would be fun if you could play the game so far and check out the new tiles yourself as well! I will release a couple demo's before the final game, so you can keep up with the development progress too.

The first demo will be coming out somewhere next week, and it will include:
-Basic SMB1 tileset + BG/M/Enemies
-Metroid (NES) tileset +BG/M/Enemies

NOTE: tiles in demo versions may change in the final game for improvements or there being other tiles that are more needed/requested.

Jungle Edition has been updated to Version C38!

Jungle Edition has been updated to the latest Ver. C version (V38). This version fixes an issue with levels that use both a custom background + custom music. Sometimes the level wouldn't load, and it could take several minutes just to start the level. Those days are over!

The new update also adds some new stuff!
  • 7 brand new default backgrounds
  • Some default backgrounds are now animated
  • Regular podoboo added
  • New custom font
  • Fixed some issues with some tiles

All levels made in the older version are compatible in the new version. Play the new version here! Thanks to Chairo for making this all possible as well!
